What we do in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City is where the valley’s oldest houses and its newest buildings sit a few blocks apart. That makes for three kinds of plumbing work, and we do all three.
New construction: infill, additions and ADUs
There is not much empty land left in the city, so new construction here usually means building on a tight lot. A new house where an old one stood. A second story. A detached ADU behind the main house.
Tight lots change the plumbing. The sewer and water connections are often shared with or squeezed past an existing house. An ADU needs its own drain run to the sewer, and that route has to be found before anyone pours a footing. We work that out at the bid. See new construction plumbing.
Remodels in older homes
The Avenues, Sugar House, Liberty Wells, Rose Park and the neighborhoods around 9th and 9th are full of homes built before 1950. They are great houses with tired plumbing. Behind the plaster you will often find:
- Galvanized steel water lines that have rusted nearly shut inside. Low pressure upstairs is the usual sign.
- Cast iron drains that have cracked or rotted through along the bottom.
- Old repairs made with whatever was on hand at the time.
When you remodel a kitchen or bathroom in one of these homes, the walls are open and the old pipe is right there. It is the best time to replace it. See remodel plumbing.
Commercial build-outs
Downtown, the Granary District and the west side are busy with tenant improvements, where old warehouses and retail shells are being turned into offices, restaurants and shops. We do the plumbing side as the subcontractor, including restrooms, break rooms, floor drains and gas. See commercial plumbing.
Water heaters in Salt Lake City
We offer same-day water heater replacement across the city. In older Salt Lake homes the water heater is often in a tight basement corner with an old-style vent. Bringing that up to current code, with proper venting, an expansion tank and earthquake straps, is part of the job.
City water is hard, like the rest of the valley. If you are replacing a water heater anyway, look at a tankless unit with a free water softener.
Close to the job
Our shop is in Taylorsville, about 20 minutes from downtown. We also work in West Jordan, Sandy and the rest of the county. See all service areas.
